Abstract
This thesis will deal with NRK s mode of address to the youth, as an important target group of the nineties. The analysis will focus on two cases: Petre, which was as a part of the new three-channel-radio, launched in 1993, and NRK2, the new television channel that was introduced in 1996. An analysis of two aspects of the text-production process is presented: first, the strategies of the NRK as an institution and the expectations of the people involved in the planning process, - second ; the actual textual mode of addressing the target group. These aspects are analysed using different methods: document analysis, qualitative interviews and qualitative text-analysis. The study shows that the intentions of address are not always in conformity with the actual textual mode of address. There seems to be similarities between the intentions in the two channels planning process, but also differences in the address. These differences could be caused by the organisation of the channels within the institutional system of the NRK, or by the time elapsed between the two channels premiers. It could also be caused by differences in radio and television as communicative mediums. The intention of mode of address in both channels was related to a wish to stand out compared with NRK(1) and the commercial channels in the Norwegian market. Both texts put a lot of emphasis on us . In Petre s texts, the us constitutes an element that has been given positive connotations, while the texts from NRK2 use a negative them -element to increase the positive value of us . The Petre-texts generally takes on a more positive tone and are rather conventional, while the texts from NRK2 use irony and metafiction which challenges the reader.
