Abstract
In this master thesis, we present the overall impact on user experience, when using in-air gestures to manipulate 3D objects in a Geographical Information System (GIS). We also discuss our attempt at integrating Oculus Rift into the same project, and why this failed. We further analyse the process of developing the prototype from the beginning to final evaluation. During the evaluation phase, we employed both formative and summative usability testing to evaluate the in-air gestures on different groups of users. We then discuss why we reached the conclusion that in-air gesture can not, with the present level of technology, improve the overall user experience.
