Sammendrag
I denne hovedoppgaven undersøkes det norske aktualitets- og underholdningsmagasinet Metropol Live og dets representasjon og formidling av byliv og urbanitet. Metropol Live er et nisjeprogram med innholdsmessig fokus på byrelaterte fenomener, og som primært retter seg mot seere i byer og urbane områder.
Oppgaven har en bred tilnærming til problemfeltet. Gjennom en kombinasjon av samfunnsvitenskapelige perspektiver, urbanitetsteori og kritisk diskursanalyse analyseres et utvalg på ti programmer. Formålet er å avdekke hvilke aspekter ved urbanitet Metropol Live vektlegger i kartleggingen av programprofilen. Samtidig undersøkes nisjeaspektet med hensyn til faktorer og egenskaper ved sjanger, distribusjon og uttrykksmåte. Argumentet er at Metropol Live i stor grad forholder seg til formidling av urban livsstil som først og fremst er beregnet for unge urbane eliter og ulike smaksgrupper i Oslo.
Abstract
This thesis deals with urbanism and city life as represented in the Norwegian magazine programme Metropol Live. This programme mainly focuses upon representation of city-related phenomenon, and is primarily directed towards viewers in cities and urban areas.
The thesis has a broad approach to the problem field. Through a combination of social theory, urban studies and critical discourse analysis, a selection of ten programmes is being explored. The purpose is to examine which factors the programme emphasizes in its representations of the urban, and to identify the programme´s target group. At the same time, the thesis will explore dimensions concerning the programmes character as a niche with regards to a variety of factors and properties concerning genre, distribution and ways of expression. The argument is that Metropol Live mainly focuses upon representation of urban lifestyles addressing the young urban elites and various taste groups in Oslo.
