Abstract
In the case of most diseases drug therapy will enhance health-related quality of life. However, inappropriate use of drugs may be harmful and could evoke new adverse symptoms. This has been known for centuries but, it was first when the reports of aplastic anaemia following treatment with chloramphenicol (9) and of birth defects after use of thalidomide (10) that the interest in drug-related problems (DRPs) increased dramatically. Since then, research in this field has been intensified, as has the development of more effective and targeted drugs, and the pharmaceutical industry has grown into one of the most important industries in the world. A paradoxical consequence is that drug therapy has gradually become more complex, thus making it increasingly challenging to prescribe drugs appropriately.List of papers
