Abstract
This thesis look upon communication within companies. We see a steadily increasing offer of communication technologies. The aim seems to be that we are to be available at any time at any given place. For the initiator of communication to be successful, i.e. reach the one he is searching, the initiator needs to be aware of the recieving parts accessibility. Or in other words he has to be aware of the other part's situation. The information about this persons situation is what we call contextual information. We have used this thesis to look at how contextual information, in general, is transmitted using comunicational tools available within the company. Spesificly we have looked at how Instant Messaging tools are used to gather and distribute this contextual information.
