Abstract
The thesis is a contribution to the interdisciplinary research project 'Solar Transitions', which assesses the implementation of solar energy efforts in West Bengal, India. Founded in theory about the MDGs, the Rights-Based Approach to sustainable development and Gender Mainstreaming, the thesis analyzes 1) the involvement of women in the solar efforts as beneficiaries and entrepreneurs, and 2) the relationship between the actors involved in the Lighting a Billion Lives Campaign.
