Abstract
In our modern society we are overwhelmed by information.
Supercomputers all over the world are generating data sets containing
terabytes of numerical data. In the years ahead the greatest
challenge to the scientifc community will be to make sense of all
this information. Specifically, tools will be needed to explore large
multi-dimensional data sets describing complex physical processes.
Computer aided visualization will certainly be one of the most
important means of solving this problem.
Turbulence researchers at the Norwegian Defense Research
Establishment need visualization software in order to validate
simulation code, present results, and gain greater insight into
physical phenomena. In this thesis we present VoluViz, an
interactive volume visualization application developed at the
NDRE, which is designed to fulfill these needs.
